Chasing the Sunset at Grace Bay Beach: A 4K Drone View of Turks and Caicos
There are some places where you can tell right away that you are going to want to come back.
Grace Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos was one of those places for me.
I had seen plenty of photos of Grace Bay before visiting. Photos of white sand. Turquoise water. Palm trees. Resorts lining the shore.
Photos are one thing.
Standing on the beach is another.
I brought my DJI drone with me because I wanted to see Grace Bay from a different perspective. Not just from the beach. Not just from the water. I wanted to see the whole coastline from above.
And I wanted to catch the sunset.
I ended up with a 4K drone video that captured something I could not quite get from the ground. The beach stretched out below me. The water changed colors as the sun dropped toward the horizon. The resorts along Grace Bay began to glow in the evening light.
It was one of those evenings when the best plan was simply to slow down and watch.
My First Impression of Grace Bay Beach
Grace Bay Beach sits along the northern shore of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos.
The beach is beautiful.

That sounds simple, but sometimes simple is the best way to describe a place.
The water was clean and crystal clear. The sand was soft and bright. Along the beach, the resorts gave the shoreline a lively vacation atmosphere without taking away from the natural beauty of the water.
I was not disappointed.
Not even close.
The water was exactly what I had hoped to see when I came to Turks and Caicos.
From the beach, the colors were already impressive. From the air, they were even better.
That was one of the reasons I wanted to fly my DJI drone here.
Grace Bay has a long, open shoreline. It gives you a great view of the contrast between the white sand and the shades of blue in the Caribbean Sea.
When the drone climbed higher, the scene changed.
The beach became a long ribbon of white.
The shallow water near shore showed different shades of turquoise. Farther out, the blue became deeper.
And then there was the sunset.
My experience at Grace Bay was not just about the beach.
I stayed at The Sands at Grace Bay, located on Grace Bay Road.
It turned out to be a pretty good choice for the price.
The resort has beach access, swimming pools, and a private beach area right on Grace Bay. It is also close to the main area, with restaurants and shopping just a short drive away.
In fact, it was only about a one-minute drive to an area with plenty of places to eat and shop.
The resort started things off with a tropical drink when I arrived.
That seemed appropriate.
I was in Turks and Caicos, after all.
My check-in was delayed, but the management handled it in a way that made the inconvenience much easier to forget. They upgraded me to an ocean-view room and comped me a bottle of wine.
That was a classy move.
An unexpected upgrade can change the mood of a trip pretty quickly.
And having an ocean view made it even easier to appreciate where I was staying.
I could see the Caribbean from the room.
But eventually I wanted to get closer to it.
Dinner at Hemingway's Restaurant
Hemingway's Restaurant is located at The Sands at Grace Bay, so I did not have to go far for dinner.
That turned out to be another highlight of the stay.
The food was really good.
The service was excellent.
And I have to mention the coconut shrimp.
Try the coconut shrimp.
It is the kind of meal that fits the location perfectly. Sitting near Grace Bay, enjoying good food, and knowing the Caribbean is just outside makes dinner feel like part of the vacation instead of simply another meal.
Hemingway's also gave me a good place to settle in and enjoy the evening.
The sun was beginning to drop.
The light was changing.
And I knew I wanted to get the drone in the air.
Getting the DJI Drone Ready
There is a different kind of anticipation that comes with setting up a drone for a sunset flight.
You have a limited window.
The sun is not going to wait for you.
I was shooting in 4K with my DJI drone and using an ND64 filter.
The ND filter helped me control the amount of light coming into the camera during the bright conditions before sunset. That gave me more control over the exposure as the light began to fade.
The drone was ready.
The sun was getting lower.
I launched the DJI and slowly moved out over the beach.
From the ground, Grace Bay looked beautiful.
From the air, it became something else.
The shoreline stretched into the distance. The resorts looked smaller against the huge sweep of the beach. The water seemed to go on forever.
Then the sunset started to take over.
Watching Grace Bay Change
This is my favorite part of recording sunsets.
The sunset is never exactly the same.
The light keeps changing.
The colors keep moving.
At first, the scene was bright and tropical. The turquoise water stood out against the white sand.
Then the sun dropped lower.
The light became warmer.
The beach began to take on a golden color.
The water reflected the changing sky.
I kept the drone moving slowly, giving the camera time to capture the scene instead of rushing through it.
There was no reason to hurry.
The whole point was to enjoy the moment.
That is one of the things I like about filming sunsets.
It forces you to pay attention.
You watch the clouds.
You watch the water.
You watch the horizon.
You notice things you might normally miss.
From the air, I could see the relationship between all of it.
The beach.
The resorts.
The water.
The horizon.
And the setting sun.
A Different View of a Grace Bay Sunset
One of the best things about flying a drone is seeing a familiar place from a completely different perspective.
Grace Bay Beach is impressive when you are standing on the sand.
But the drone showed me just how large and beautiful the coastline really is.
The white beach seemed to stretch forever.
The crystal-clear water created layers of blue and turquoise.
The resorts along the shore added little pockets of activity to an otherwise peaceful scene.
From above, it all came together.
It was also a reminder that Grace Bay is more than just a pretty beach.
It is a place where you can spend the entire day without needing to do much at all.
You can swim.
Walk along the beach.
Sit near the water.
Have dinner.
Watch the sunset.
Then do it again the next day.
That is not a bad vacation.
Sunset, Dinner, and a Quiet Evening
As the sun continued toward the horizon, I found myself thinking about the entire day.
The resort.
The ocean-view room.
The tropical welcome drink.
The meal at Hemingway's.
The coconut shrimp.
The beach.
And now the sunset.
Travel is often remembered through small moments.
Not just the big attractions.
For me, this evening at Grace Bay was one of those moments.
I was sitting near one of the most beautiful beaches I had visited, enjoying a good meal, and watching the sky change while my DJI drone recorded the view from above.
There was no schedule to worry about.
No reason to rush.
Just the sunset.
That is when a vacation starts to feel like a vacation.
Recording the Sunset in 4K
The finished drone footage gives you a chance to see Grace Bay the way I saw it that evening.
The 4K video captures the details of the beach and the changing colors of the water.
The ND64 filter helped me manage the bright Caribbean sunlight before the sun disappeared below the horizon.
But the equipment is only part of the story.
The location is what makes the footage special.
Grace Bay gives you the kind of scenery that does not need much help.
White sand.
Clear water.
A wide Caribbean horizon.
And a sunset that slowly changes everything.
The drone simply gave me another way to experience it.
Would I Go Back to Grace Bay?
Absolutely.
My experience at Grace Bay Beach was everything I hoped it would be.
The beach was beautiful. The water was clean and crystal clear. The location was convenient. There were plenty of restaurants and shops nearby.
Staying at The Sands at Grace Bay also made the experience easy. Having beach access right at the resort was a big plus. The ocean-view upgrade after my delayed check-in was an unexpected bonus.
And Hemingway's Restaurant was a memorable part of the stay.
Good food.
Great service.
And coconut shrimp worth ordering.
But the sunset is what tied the whole experience together.
As I watched the sun disappear over the Caribbean, the beach became quieter. The light softened. The water changed color one last time.
My DJI drone was up in the sky, recording it all in 4K.
Sometimes you travel somewhere because you want to see it.
Sometimes you bring a camera because you want to remember it.
And sometimes you are lucky enough to do both.
Grace Bay Beach was one of those places for me.
The drone captured the view.
The camera captured the colors.
But being there was the part I will remember.
Turks and Caicos has plenty of beautiful places.
Grace Bay is certainly one of them.
And if you ever find yourself sitting on that beach as the sun begins to set, take a few minutes and stop looking through the camera.
Look at the horizon.
The sunset is happening whether you record it or not.
